Game Stuff 新

March 6, 2011

Unlike most bloggers, I do not constantly hog news outlets and report on interesting stuff the moment they surface; my stuff are anything but fresh. In return for my infrequent look up on various scene updates, I would run into heaps of saucy news every time, kind of. This time is another such instance. By whatever reason, I’ve suddenly felt compelled to randomly open up game company web pages from my bookmarks. Well, I’m not going to list them based on where I read them and I’m not going to cover the games I think most already heard of, no point repeating what’s known eh.

This news seems to be a week old but Aquaplus has announced that they are working on three new projects, two being of particular interest. They are working on Utawarerumono 2 and Tears to Tiara 2, the remaining one is called Jasmine and it’ll be the usual ADV fare for the PC. Both Utawarerumono and Tears to Tiara I doubt are alien to many, since both got their anime and everyone knows how effective anime is in turning a completely unknown series into a subject of hysteric fanfare (note: the stark contrast in awareness enjoyed by any light novel series before and after their anime; note the consistent sudden extreme rise in popularity of everything KyoAni touched the last 6 years; etc). Information is scarce about the story that will take place within the games but speculations are going about that Utawarerumono 2 may be a continuation from its prequel (which raised an unanswered question about ‘how’) and Tears to Tiara 2 may be have little to no connection to Tears to Tiara. Alas, these are but assumptions and Aquaplus has said nothing much other than announcing that they are working on these. Both are slated for the PS3 it seems. I still have the Tears to Tiara and Tears to Tiara Gaiden I got late last year lying around, lets see if I’m done with them in time for the release lol.

On the PSP scene of sorrow – sorrow since I can’t play them :( – are some interesting looking games. One of the most intriguing of them that caught my attention is Akiba’s Trip. Playing much like Ryuu ga Gotoku (aka Yakuza) where you move around a sandbox environment. You would be fighting vampires, and you’d strip them so they burn to death from the sunlight or something; if you have not noticed yet, the title is a word play of Akiba Strip. Another interesting aspect of this game is it will be taking place in an exact recreation of Akihabara, with the shops and stuff. Vampires and Akihabara may be a wacky combination, but that’s the point I guess, lol.

Another PSP game that looked interesting is ToHeart2 Dungeon Travelers. Yes, that’s right, ToHeart2… Dungeon Travelers. Simply put, it’s a dungeon crawlers with the ToHeart2 cast as the characters. Can’t say these putting-characters-from-a-series-into-a-different-genre is a new or unusual formula; but it always work at striking the interest of their fans in one way or another, or at least it works for me a lot of the times. Besides, it’s Aquaplus, they make good games.

lol there were so many Aquaplus in this entry I could get away with just naming this entry The Aquaplus Post or something similar. These guys sure are getting serious about going into the console gaming industry nowadays. Good for them.
